Bujinkan Budo Taijitsu is founded on liberty and uses this concept as a base, to study the techniques of the body, as a central point from which to use traditional weapons.  According to Sensei Hatsumi Soke, of nine traditional Martial Arts and founder of Bujinkan International, in the beginning you move because of the mind.  The conscious mind tells the body that it has to move a certain way.  Later the subconscious mind begins to function and you move more intuitively.  There is no one better to explain this Art than Master Pedro Fleitas, 10th Dan. He is also a long time student of Master Hatsumi who is considered the world's greatest Ninjitsu expert.
