Volume 7 of this series of DVDs has Morio Higaonna, 10th Dan, demonstrating Kakie. Kakie is a traditional form of Okinawan training. The goal is to control your opponent and upset their balance through a combination of strength, body positioning and techniques. Joint locks and throws can be executed with a quick finishing effect, as demonstrated by Master Higaonna. Traditional Kakie training conditions the arms and teaches sensitivity, depending on whether the contact is heavy or light. The idea is to sense the intent of your partner before he actually moves, so you are immediately ready to counter his movement. Higaonna demonstrates the many types of Kakie and performs exercises on how to begin practicing self-defense applications at a close range. A variation of this drill is using one hand against your partner’s two hands with your eyes closed.
