Nikko Restoration Massage- Massage Therapy for the Martial Artist

Nikko Restoration Massage is a unique Massage therapy which originally was used to treat injuries sustained while training in the Martial Arts. Its history goes back approximately 1500 years and was widely used in Japan. In the 20th century, it became more well known and further developed by Seishiro Okazaki, a martial artist and healer.

Okazaki, was born in Fukushima, Japan and later immigrated to Hawaii in 1909. He studied the martial arts of Danzan Ryu Jiujitsu and Judo and became a well known teacher. One of the main things he was known for was being one of the first Asian Martial Artists to teach non - Asian people the martial arts. Hebecame well liked by his students. Among his knowledge of the martial arts, Okazaki was also educated in health sciences and physical therapy. Using his knowledge of both the martial arts, the 1500 year old Nikko Restoration Massage also known as ‘Seifukujitsu’, and his physical therapy and health science background, he began treating people with this restorative form of massage. He opened a JiuJitsu institute and Nikko Restoration Massage Sanatorium in Hawaii. Many famous people sought him out as a healer to help them with their illnesses and injuries, including former President Roosevelt, a fellow martial artist.

The principles behind Nikko Restoration Massage Therapy include deep tissue massage techniques which work not only the muscles, but the connective tissue in the body, and it is also combined with stimulating Acupressure points. This therapy has been known to increase blood flow and helps the body to heal faster. It has also been known to help alleviate headaches and migraines along with other health concerns.
