This is the third volume of a series of three books on Hwa Rang Do by Master Joo Bang Lee. Master Lee offers a complete overview of this highly useful martial discipline, including a section dealing with the weapons of Hwa Rang Do and the defenses against a knife, a sword, a gun, and defenses with a cane and a short stick. Master Lee notes that once you have mastered the twenty basic weapon types, that you can then eventually master the 108 weapons studied and used in Hwa Rang Do.
Next, Master Lee demonstrates several techniques in clear photographs, including opponent control and a section on vital points, using charts. Sweeping, throwing, locking and striking techniques are also described in a variety of detailed photographs, demonstrated by Master Joo-Bang Lee himself. There is also a section which demonstrates, and briefly explains, how to execute six basic throws and how to defend against someone who is trying to throw you.
Master Lee’s technical expertise is evident throughout this book, but he also details the history of Hwa Rang Do and its progression over the centuries from ancient times to the present day and his theory and internal dynamics which make up this very impressive art.
Author Lee Joo Bang was at one time a direct and senior student of Hapkido founder Choi Yong-Sul, and part of an original core group of dedicated martial arts men in Korea who traded techniques with one another.
Volume three is part of a collection which is absolutely worthwhile in any martial arts collection.
