Today karate is the most widely used denotation
for fighting arts which originate in the former
island kingdom of Ryūkyū. In 1879 the core of this
region became a part of the nation Japan. Since
the beginning of the 20th century karate
disseminated step by step on the Japanese main
islands, Hawai'i, in America and subsequently in
the rest of the world.
